Job Summary
Under direction, is responsible for scheduling and supervising assignments of subordinate technicians in the performance of maintenance and repair work on heating and air conditioning equipment. Exercises direct supervision over HVAC Technician I's and II's.
Essential Job Functions
* Performs inspections and supervises the maintenance and repair of heating and air conditioning equipment;
* Performs diagnosis of equipment and schedules repairs;
* Performs water treatment analyses;
* Maintains technical manual library, historical records, and blueprints line;
* Coordinates building and equipment modifications and prepares cost estimates;
* Reviews energy management reports and budget operating funds for recommendations;
* Prepares biweekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports;
* Participates in the hiring, disciplining, and termination of personnel;
* Maintains inventory of spare parts and tools;
* Operates automated control system in the absence of a trained operator;
* Trains employees on maintenance and repair procedures and standard safety practices;
* Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job/Driving Requirements
* Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate;
* Five (5) years of full journey level experience in the HVAC trade, including working with large tonnage (3000) chill water plants, electrical and pneumatic control systems, water treatment, and boilers up to six million btu's;
* HVAC Journeyman license issued by the City of San Antonio;
* This position requires a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License or obtain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License within thirty (30) days after becoming a resident of the State of Texas;
* Use of your own personal vehicle may at times be required and proof of liability insurance will be required;
* Substitution Ratio: Two years of related experience may be substituted for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience;
* ANY APPLICANT SELECTED FOR EMPLOYMENT WITH THE CITY OF SAN ANTONIO MUST RECEIVE SATISFACTORY RESULTS FROM PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TESTING, REFERENCES, BACKGROUND CHECKS AND CREDENTIAL VERIFICATION. ADDITIONALLY, EMPLOYEES IN SENSITIVE OR HIGH RISK POSITIONS ARE SUBJECT TO INTERVAL CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH TITLE 49 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS, EMPLOYEES IN CDL POSITIONS ARE SUBJECT TO RANDOM DRUG TESTING.

Preferred Qualifications
* Ten (10) years of Journeyman experience in the HVAC trades;
* Ten (10) years of experience in HVAC Plant Management, managing large tonnage (2000 + ton) chilled water plants, digital and pneumatic control systems, water treatment, boiler units of 6 million btu's;
* Five (5) years supervisory experience of employees in Plant Management; Refrigerant Handling Certification;
* Supervisory experience highly desirable;
* Advanced HVAC technical training is highly desirable.
* Skill in operating a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Office.
