Job Summary
Under general direction, is responsible for performing supervisory work involving planning and coordinating the enforcement of animal control laws and regulations using independent judgement to work with the public on the apprehension of stray, diseased, or dangerous animals. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.
Essential Job Functions
* Consults with citizens on the enforcement of Animal Codes;
* Consults with proper authorities concerning refusals to comply with the Animal Code;
* Testifies in court when required;
* Assigns daily work schedule of subordinates and coordinates personnel utilization with kenel supervisors;
* Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff members;
* Responds to telephone inquiries from citizens;
* Investigates complaints from citizens about stray animals, vicious animals, and animal cruelty;
* Issues citations on animal code violations;
* Provides field supervision to Animal Care Officers;
* Develops written reports for management;
* Monitors radio dispatch calls;
* Makes presentations to community groups and organizations;
* Monitors and coordinates division budget;
* Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Skills / Requirements

Job/Driving Requirements
* Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate;
* Four (4) years of animal handling experience, to include one (1) year of experience as a supervisor or lead worker;
* Must possess the Texas Department of Health's Advance Control Officer Certification or obtain within one year of employment;
* This position requires a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License or obtain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License within thirty (30) days after becoming a resident of the State of Texas;
* Use of your own personal vehicle may at times be required and proof of liability insurance will be required;
* Substitution Ratio: Two years of related experience may be substituted for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience;
* ANY APPLICANT SELECTED FOR EMPLOYMENT WITH THE CITY OF SAN ANTONIO MUST RECEIVE SATISFACTORY RESULTS FROM PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TESTING, REFERENCES, BACKGROUND CHECKS AND CREDENTIAL VERIFICATION. ADDITIONALLY, EMPLOYEES IN SENSITIVE OR HIGH RISK POSITIONS ARE SUBJECT TO INTERVAL CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH TITLE 49 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS, EMPLOYEES IN CDL POSITIONS ARE SUBJECT TO RANDOM DRUG TESTING.

* Experience with animal adoptions;
* Good communication skills.

Work Hours
* 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday - Saturday, Work Days May Vary;
* Requires to perform on-call Weekdays, Weekends, Holidays & Overtime as scheduled;
* At the Dept.'s Discretion, the Work Location and Work Days/Hours May Be Subject to Change;
* This position can be closed at any time.
