Job Summary
Under direction, is responsible for performing professional work reviewing City buildings to be constructed and for providing technical assistance to other related building construction as directed by the City Architect. Candidate may exercises functional supervision over Architect Assistants, Management Analysts or Administrative professionals.
Essential Job Functions
* Oversees the customer service initiatives and the mission of the Capital Improvements Management Services Department;
* Directs and participates in project development for one of the project management teams;
* Establishes and supervises the setting of preliminary programs, budgets, and schedules to meet project needs and makes recommendations to the City Architect on the project delivery method;
* Assists with the consultant selection process and oversees and manages their work products; reporting to the City Architect any issues that will delay project delivery;
* Reviews plans, specifications, cost estimates, and inspects sites during construction operations;
* Oversees city staff and the consultants as they coordinate with contractors and client departments and communicates with various department representatives;
* Develops reports and presentations on projects to city staff and the general public;
* Oversees staff adherence to department policies on records and file management procedures;
* Programs, designs, draws, and writes technical specifications for City projects;
* Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as directed as required.

Job/Driving Requirements
* Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in Engineering, Math, or a related field;
* Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in architecture;
* Licensed to practice as a Registered Architect in the State of Texas;
* Project Management Certification or the ability to receive such within 18 months;
* This position requires a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License or obtain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License within thirty (30) days after becoming a resident of the State of Texas;
* Use of your own personal vehicle may at times be required and proof of Liability Insurance will be required;
* Substitution Ratio: No substitution for education allowed;
* ANY APPLICANT SELECTED FOR EMPLOYMENT WITH THE CITY OF SAN ANTONIO MUST RECEIVE SATISFACTORY RESULTS FROM PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TESTING, REFERENCES, BACKGROUND CHECKS AND CREDENTIAL VERIFICATION. ADDITIONALLY, EMPLOYEES IN SENSITIVE OR HIGH RISK POSITIONS ARE SUBJECT TO INTERVAL CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH TITLE49 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS, EMPLOYEES IN CDL POSITIONS ARE SUBJECT TO RANDOM DRUG TESTING.

Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in Engineering, Math, or related field;
* Five (5) years of supervisory over a professional design staff preferred;
* Twenty (20) years of increasingly responsible experience in architecture;
* Ten (10) years of experience in management of large space projects.

Work Hours
* 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday;
* This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status, and can be terminated at any time for any reason;
* At the Dept.'s Discretion, the Work Location and Work Days/Hours May Be Subject to Change;
