Job Number/Title: 0695-TELECOMMUNICATIONS TECHNICIAN
Closing Date: 11/16/2009 Salary: $16.37 - $22.20 / Hourly Date Posted: 11/02/2009 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Department: Police Job Summary Under general supervision, installs, troubleshoots, and repairs telephone, computer, and other communication equipment. Exercises no supervision. Essential Job Functions * Installs all cable and communication equipment for voice and data applications; * Delivers and installs voice and data communications equipment, including telephone sets, computers terminals, printers, as well as all associated outlets and adapters; * Monitors and ensures quality control on work projects; * Replaces, cleans, or repairs parts on various communications equipment, including telephones, computer terminals, and printers; * Utilizes tools in the repair or replacement of wires, cables, switches, relays, circuit packs, control units, and related components; * Maintains equipment and utilizes testing devices to analyze operations malfunctioning; * Designs associated component layout, specifically wiring, for installation of communications systems; * Responds to emergency service or repair calls as necessary; * Maintains maintenance records and information for management use; * Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Skills / Requirements
Job/Driving Requirements * Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field and one (1) year of experience in the installation of communications cables, telephones, computer equipment, or other related communications equipment; * OR a technical certification, such as, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), or Certified Netware Engineer (CNE) and one (1) year of computer-related experience; * OR a technical certification, such as, Microsoft Certified Professional (MSP) or A+ Certified PC Technician and four (4) years of computer-related experience; * This position requires a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License or obtain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License within thirty (30) days after becoming a resident of the State of Texas; * Use of your own vehicle may at times be required and proof of insurance will be required; * Substitution Ratio: Two years of related experience may be substituted for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience; * ANY APPLICANT SELECTED FOR EMPLOYMENT WITH THE CITY OF SAN ANTONIO MUST RECEIVE SATISFACTORY RESULTS FROM PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TESTING, REFERENCES, BACKGROUNDS CHECKS AND CREDENTIAL VERIFICATION. ADDITIONALLY, EMPLOYEES IN SENSITIVE OR HIGH RISK POSITIONS ARE SUBJECT TO INTERVAL CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH TITLE 49 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS, EMPLOYEES IN CDL POSITIONS ARE SUBJECT TO RANDOM DRUG TESING.
