  • Overview

    The Residential Medical Aide provides direct nursing care to residents/children such as administering and ordering medication, conducting medical assessments and diagnostic testing, and medical treatment as prescribed by a licensed medical or clinical professional in accordance to Agency policies, licensing and funding standards, and other federal, state, and local regulatory

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties

    • Provide Resident with routine health screenings and perform basic health assessment; assess each resident’s unique medical needs and ensure they are properly met in a timely manner; report routine medical needs to the medical, clinical, case management and direct care staff per Agency policy and licensing standards
    • Administer medication and treatment to resident as prescribed or as needed in accordance with licensing standards and nursing practices; coordinate medical appointments and follow through on medications and treatment as prescribed; coordinate and oversee the prescribed nutritional needs and diet and fluid intake for resident as prescribed
    • Keep medication files and maintain inventory of all prescribed medications; order medication and supplies as required and as needed
    • Assist with the assessment, development, and evaluation of resident service plan based on their needs and medical condition.
    • Monitor resident response to treatment plans and identify adverse medication interactions and notify Clinical Director and other clinical and medical staff as deemed appropriate
    • Create, update, and maintain accurate and up-to-date resident records with information pertaining to nursing care, child’s medical history, treatment plans, and observations; chart all pertinent information in the resident’s chart records in accordance to Agency policy and licensing standards
    • Work closely with clinical and program team to admit, transfer, and discharge resident as directed
    • Support and enforce infection-control policies and procedures
    • Use assessment information and resident care during the shift to develop a care plan that accurately communicates the required and needed information for incoming shift to properly and adequately care for the resident
    • Seek guidance when encountering nursing procedures and responsibilities that have not been mastered
    • Assist with the safe and physical evacuation of resident during an emergency situation or natural disaster
    • Provide on-call services when needed for emergency situations
    • Complete paperwork as relates to treatment plans, placement and discharge summaries, and administration of medication, auditing of MARs and Medical Records.
    • Transcribe and read medical orders
    • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as requested and to remain in compliance with licensing and funding standards
    • Respond to all crisis situations in a timely manner; ensure all Program departments are properly notified in a timely manner; report incidents according to licensing standards
    • Role includes on-call responsibilities as schedule and as medical emergencies/needs may arise; consultation can be provided remotely or on-site based on need
    • Other duties and special projects as assigned

    Working Relationships

    • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with management, staff, residents, families and sponsors, community partners and professional service providers
    • Work closely with the Clinical Director, Program Director and staff to ensure residents are receiving the highest quality of care and the program is operating efficiently and effectively and is meeting the goals and objectives of the program and the needs of the resident
    • Work as a team player and exhibit professional behavior and a positive attitude with all stakeholders that reflects positively on the Agency and is consistent with Agency policies and practices

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
    • Must be at least 21 years of age
    • 3-years’ nursing or relevant medical experience
    • 1-year experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting
    • Ability to maintain a professional approach and build a rapport and trust with residents and their families
    • Consistently follows established standards, policies, and procedures in providing nursing care
    • Strong writing skills with the ability to document and maintain accurate files/records
    • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and people skills; ability to work and interact with diverse groups of people and handle stressful and emotional situations
    • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to work with a team in a collaborative manner
    • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to pay very close attention to details and meet deadlines
    • Experience passing medication
    • Ability to resolve conflict and respond to resident issues with professionalism, tact, and empathy
    • Proficient in use of personal computers, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and information systems used to document and record resident information

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Current RN, LVN, CMA, MA license to practice in the state of Texas
    • Nursing experience with pediatrics and adolescents, highly preferred

    Physical Demands & Work Conditions

    • This position requires sitting and looking and using a computer for long periods of time
    • Position works in a child facility and has constant exposure to children
    • Lift, push, pull, move up to 50 lbs.
